Passing Tarlac Pangasinan La Union Expressway (TPLEX) is a great experience specially when you are going to Northern Luzon. It will save you more time and less hustle than passing through the main road.
To begin with, most private vehicles passing through this route are Class 1 vehicles (Cars & Jeepneys, Including Taxis, Vans, Pick-Ups, etc. or Vehicles with 2 axles and an Overall Height of up To Feet). It will take you more or less 45 minutes of long travel at an average speed of 95KPH (100KPH maximum) from La Paz, Tarlac to Urdaneta, Pangasinan with a toll fee that cost around 216 Pesos (as of Spetember 2016) .
Will I pass here or not?
If you are planning for a long travel like Manila to Baguio or any point in Northern Luzon via TPLEX and vice-versa, I suggest you pass this route. The price of the toll fee will offset the price of the fuel compared to the longer and conventional route. It is also advantageous on your part because you cut-off a portion of your traveling time and improve the safety factor and road hazards.
If you planning for a short travel, avoid this route. The entry/exit points of the expressway will give another extra distance going to the main road. Use the main road instead.
